When Can I Go Back to Work After Dental Implant Surgery?
May 4, 2022
For many who are missing one or more teeth, dental implants are the replacement option of choice. This is because these incredibly durable, lifelike, and long-lasting restorations are the only ones that replace the root of the tooth. Just like with other surgical procedures, dental implant surgery will take some time to recover from. So, how long do you have to wait before you can go back to work? Read on to learn more about the dental implant recovery period.
When You Can Go Back to Work After Dental Implant Surgery
For some patients, going back to work the day after dental implant surgery is no problem. For others, more time is necessary for them to rest and recover. The amount of time you take off will ultimately be up to you and your implant surgeon. If you only have one implant placed, you can expect a shorter recovery time than if you had several teeth replaced. With that in mind, every patient is different. Even so, many patients return to work within a few days of getting dental implant surgery
The Importance of Your Recovery Period
If your life involves a lot of running around, it may be difficult to stay still after dental implant surgery. Still, it’s important to rest for at least the first 24 hours after the procedure. Taking it easy during this time will go a long way in helping your body heal properly.
Additionally, resting is key to preventing issues. Osseointegration is the process by which the jaw bone fuses with your implants and is what makes them so sturdy. If this process is interfered with, it could lead to implant failure or other complications. So, even if you take pain relievers to prevent discomfort, you’ll still need to slow down and give your body time to heal.
6 Tips for Healing from Dental Implant Surgery
As previously mentioned, getting enough rest is crucial to healing properly after dental implant surgery. Some other things that will help you heal include:
- Eat soft foods for the first 10 to 14 days after the procedure
- Get seven to nine hours of sleep every night
- Keep your mouth clean to avoid infection
- Drink plenty of water during the day
- Don’t engage in intense workouts
- Don’t use tobacco products
Though the amount of time you will need before going back to work after dental implant surgery can vary, be sure to listen to your dentist and your body. They can give you more information on how long you need to recover before you can show your coworkers your new and improved smile!
